A Village in Nepal - One Month after the Great Earthquake

Kaaule and Bhangeri are two remote villages in the Nuwakot district of Nepal , around six hours away from the capital Kathmandu. The great Nepal earthquake destroyed almost all the houses in the two villages. I visited the villages exactly one month after the quake and this is my photo essay of the day to day cycle of life.

There is no fuel to cook rice - this man collects wood from the nearby forest even though cutting of trees is forbidden.
Two villagers carry the galvanised iron sheets received from the relief workers - but it is not enough to build a shelter.
In a display of rare courage and initiative Eskumar begins the repairs of his home. I ask him what he is using and he says " the same broken bits which had collapsed in the earthquake".
Near the Bhangeri monastery there is a scene of total devastation. This woman has her evening meal of boiled rice - the remains of her home next to her.
Some families have corn harvested - this may help them through the monsoon months.
